This was my crack at the "traditionally" made kanzashi. Traditional kanzashi is made with habutae silk, an EXTREMELY thin but durable high quality silk. The only way I can describe it is by comparing it to a spider's web made into a sheet of fabric. It's lighter than a feather and is barely opaque (you can clearly see your hand on the other side of it!) So, I cut up a couple dozen squares (I think the final count was over 80 but I forget now), set out my rice glue onto a hard plastic sheet (traditionally a laquered wood plank was used but I didn't have one laying around at the time :p) and painstackingly put this together piece by piece. Each petal has to sit in the glue for a minimum of 30 minutes and then set onto the ball (covered in silk for extra hold) with more glue and then left to set for 8-12 hours. This piece literally took me the entire day. When I wasn't folding petals I was preparing more fabric or having a snack (a set of 15 petals took around 15 minutes to fold and set into the right shape). The petals were hand dyed by myself using super secret fabric dye and then went through the same process as the petals.

Sorry for the lack of quality in the picture (_ _) The lens on my camera was a bit dirty on the Sunday of the convention and it didn't come out as well as I thought it would!

Total Time: An entire day's worth of work, so, approximately 12 hours.
